As part of Teranet’s ongoing effort to enhance our offering to Canadian lending professionals, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Portfolio Summary Report.
We recently spoke to Kan Zhu, the Director of Financial Services & Data Analytics at Teranet, to discuss what’s included in this report and the value it offers.
Q: Can you tell us what the Portfolio Summary Report is?
A: The Portfolio Summary Report is a new product we’ve introduced to the market in order to provide a lender with meaningful analytics and insight into their mortgage portfolio. This report leverages Teranet’s proprietary data to provide our customers a comprehensive snapshot of the key characteristics of their mortgage portfolio such as total volume, value, demographic information, and a summary of mortgage positions and post funding events.
Q: Why did you and the team choose to introduce this new report to the market?
A: Teranet is a leader in providing property insights and analysis, which is why we launched the Data Science Lab in early 2020. The Teranet Data Science Lab delivers customized solutions tailored to meeting the unique needs of our lending customers. Our data scientists quickly realized that many of our customers have the same questions about the performance of their book of business compared to the rest of the market. Lenders want to know if they are over or under-exposed in certain market segments, and gain more insight into post funding activity. Through the Portfolio Summary Report we are able to demonstrate the power of our data and answer our customers’ questions all in one place.
Q: What data is included in the Portfolio Summary Report?
A: In this initial release of the report, we have included an analysis of mortgage data, demographics and geography for a lender’s portfolio. The mortgage analysis looks at mortgage volume, distribution of mortgage positions, the average mortgage duration and post funding events such as the registration of liens and second or third mortgages. In regards to demographics, the report illustrates the percentage of mortgages held by first-time home buyers, the number of owners on title and a breakdown of owners by age group. Finally, the geographic analysis maps out the mortgages in a lender’s portfolio by municipality.
The Portfolio Summary Report will continue to evolve over time, and we plan to introduce more data points in future releases. We are confident this report delivers the insights our customers need, but we encourage you to share any comments you have about how we can make the Portfolio Summary Report even more meaningful with your dedicated account manager. Q: Where does the data included in the report come from?
A: The data in the Portfolio Summary Report comes from the Ontario land registry system and Teranet’s data partners. This authoritative data is high quality, high coverage and is based on record level data that is unlike the typical survey based data currently available in the market.
